So after all these months, you probably didn’t expect to see me here again. After a couple of failed attempts at a return, you were sure that I was by now gone for good. And to be honest, I thought I was too. And yet, something has led me back again. Some strange intangible thing.
So there are no excuses, but here are a couple of the things in the real world which prevented me from being here as much as I would have hoped:
1. We bought a place! It’s a wonderful inner city apartment that currently encapsulates our little world in so many ways. We’re in love with its tall ceilings, the grand windows and open airiness that comes with warehouse conversions. We love it here like you wouldn’t believe but getting to this point has been the culmination of much effort. In addition to the big move and subsequent settling in, I’ve also been all serious and lawyer-like in looking after the conveyancing myself.
2. I started a Masters degree. Never thought I would see the day but it has indeed arrived. And surprisingly, I’m getting more out of it than I ever did with my undergraduate degrees. My partner in academic crime and I have pledged to do everything we never did in the undergrad; sit at the front of the class, do readings, participate in discussions and hand in assignments on time. Big uncool promises I know but that’s just how we “mature-aged students” roll.
What’s even more exciting is that next semester my lecturer will be the President of the Supreme Court of Appeal. Time to channel even more of my Steve Urkel charm!
3. I still work five days a week. As a “serious lawyer” where I often pull some serious hours.
But the reasons aside, here I am again.
But enough about me, I can’t wait to see what you all have been up to!
